The Truth About Ja Rule’s Marriage

Ja Rule’s relationship with his wife is a pretty rare thing in the world of hip hop. For one thing, he and Aisha have been together since they were in high school several decades ago. But more than that, their relationship has been able to survive some pretty wild rumors. Here’s what we know about their love story.

Their Love Story

Aisha and Ja first met when they were both 13 years old. The high school sweethearts never looked back, and eventually got married in 2001. They welcomed their first child into the world six years earlier, with Aisha giving birth to their only daughter, Brittney. In 2000, the year before their wedding, the couple had their second kid and first son, Jeffrey Jr. A second son, Jordan, followed five years later.

Ja Rules Family

The happy family have been known to share their love for each other on social media, often posting lengthy good wishes online for special occasions. Last year, Ja took to Instagram to celebrate an incredible 22 years of marriage to Aisha. He wrote, “Happy anniversary baby!! 22 years deep and still going strong…” He went on to describe her as his buddy and his best friend.

The Perfect Couple?

From the outside, Ja and Aisha seem to have the perfect marriage. But the truth has been a lot more complicated. And Aisha has chosen to stick by her man during some really tough times. Since Ja became a star in the music industry over twenty years ago, the marriage has been plagued by cheating rumors.

Cheating Scandals

One of the earliest scandals hit after the release of a bombshell memoir by video vixen Karrine Steffans. The book caused a major stir in the hip hop industry thanks to her many claims of affairs with rappers, many of whom were married at the time. One of her affairs that caught the most attention was with Ja, who she claimed gave her her infamous nickname.

Karrine alleged that she had had many secret encounters with Ja while Aisha was back home raising their kids. However, Ja has always denied being intimate with Karrine. The rapper has admitted that Karrine was a major presence at Irv Gotti’s label, Murder Inc., where she was often used as a pawn in industry games.

In 2014, Hip Hop DX reported that Ja had accused Karrine of profiting off the pain of others. He also questioned why any rapper would get close to Karrine after the release of her book, describing those who did as “playing with fire.” He went on to call Karrine old and suggest she had to live like a hermit who never went out anymore. But for the most part, Ja has tried to stay quiet on the scandal with Karrine

And for her part, Aisha has never talked about the claims, despite reporters allegedly begging for her side of the story. Aisha has often talked about her reluctance to enter the spotlight, preferring to keep her private life private. However, after the couple started filming their reality series Follow the Rules, she found herself the center of attention in a way she wasn’t used to.

Follow the Rules

In 2015, she and her husband made an appearance on The Breakfast Club to promote the show. Although the interview was pretty fun and lighthearted, some pretty shocking admissions came out which changed the way everyone looked at their relationship.

At one point, Aisha was asked about how she dealt with handling the marriage with Ja on the road so much. This was followed by a comment from Charlamagne tha God, who suggestively described Ja as a “wild boy.” And surprisingly, Ja openly agreed that he was a wild boy in the past right in front of his wife. However, although he was a wild boy, Ja also stressed that he was a good guy.

However, he didn’t go as far as explaining what this meant. Aisha went on to explain how she was able to maintain a strong and healthy relationship with Ja after so many years as a successful rapper. She said that it was important to have a strong network around her which included Ja’s own mom, who she said she was very close with. She also said her own mom, as well as her friends and cousins, were all part of a support system.

How They Make It Work

Aisha went on to say that this support system had been something she needed to keep them together. So while nothing was directly admitted or confirmed, it seemed pretty clear that there were things in the couple’s past that had rocked their relationship. When Charlemagne asked if a husband was easier to forgive if he had money, Aisha jokingly appeared to think about it.

But she went on to explain that she and Ja had been together since they were 13 years old when neither of them had anything. And she felt that Ja was very much her man, and if she wanted to forgive him for whatever people thought he’d done was her business. And if they can move past everything that people claimed Ja had done, that was all that mattered.

Committed to Each Other

After spending most of their lives together, Aisha made it clear that she couldn’t see herself without him. However, Aisha also admitted that she had thrown “a couple of drinks” at women in the past she felt were getting too close to Ja.

Later in the interview, Aisha again brought up what she called Ja’s “shenanigans.” Ja tried to laugh it off and avoid bringing any allegations up again. Aisha, however, revealed that Ja had “never admitted to anything” from his past.Ja responded that there was nothing to admit, but Aisha suggested that she didn’t totally believe him.

The shocking exchange ended shortly after, with Ja explaining that “you can’t see the future if you’re living in the past.” While the couple have made it clear that they only want to move forward together, there have been plenty of other rumors about Ja’s behavior.

Shocking Rumors

And one particular rumor about his infidelity was wild. It all started with his 2007 arrest for attempted possession of a weapon. In 2010, the charge led to a two year prison sentence for Ja, before serving additional time for unpaid taxes. A rumor then emerged online that MTV were shooting a  documentary called Married Life After Prison which featured Aisha.

Reports followed making the crazy allegation thatAisha had claimed that Ja had left her for his cellmate. The rumor persisted long enough that in 2013, Ja was forced to come out to deny it after his release from prison. He first took to Twitter to say that the rumors were false lies made up by a website. In a later radio interview he was asked again about the story.

Ja was able to see the funny side, saying that there was no truth to the gossip, but that he found it comical. He also said that he understood the website’s “hustle” was to put out crazy stories to get hits. Ja also suggested that the man he was 5 years earlier could’ve got into a lot of trouble if he reacted to that story.

But now that he was more mature and in a happy place with his family, he could only laugh at the fake news out there about him. True or false, the many stories about Ja’s extramarital adventures haven’t gone away.

But incredibly, his marriage to Aisha hasn’t gone anywhere either.
